Continued global manufacturing slump holds little surprise for U.S. manufacturers

U.S. manufacturing picked up in June, but the ongoing slowdown in Europe and China is being eyed with concern. The lackluster global activity should not come as a surprise to U.S. factory owners, said MAPI Senior Economist Don Norman, as Europe has been "mired in economic malaise" for months. Also, while China's slower pace "is a cause for concern ... at the same time it really was to be expected," Norman said.
