Europe launches broad health care research initiative

The European Union/Industry Innovative Medicines Initiative has announced $173 million in funding for research into age-related conditions and other emerging medical issues. IMI is soliciting proposals in areas including: treating older patients who are frail and suffer from loss of muscle mass; using social media and mobile apps in tracking adverse drug reactions; expanding research into antimicrobial resistance; and finding new ways of combating resistant Gram-negative pathogens such as E coli.
