Forest Service moves firefighting fleet from Colo. to Ariz.

The U.S. Forest Service announced that it would move the four airplanes in its Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System fleet from Colorado Springs, Colo., to Mesa, Ariz. The MAFFS aircrews are capable of dropping 3,000 gallons of water or fire retardant along the leading edge of a forest fire in less than five seconds. The fleet had been activated on June 11 to assist with firefighting efforts in southern Colorado, and have already made 70 drops on fires in Colorado and Arizona. Read more here.
