Google updates Maps app for Android to be more competitive

The Google Maps application for Android devices has been updated and is available on the Google Play online store, Seth Rosenblatt writes. Its Explore component is similar to one offered on Foursquare, Rosenblatt writes. Google said the Latitude service will go dark on Aug. 9, and it is no longer a feature within Google Maps. Google also said it's offering its Databoard tool, which provides data on how people use their mobile devices.
