HIV plus HCV or HBV linked to poorer treatment response

Study data presented at an AIDS conference found that HIV patients who also were infected with hepatitis B or hepatitis C had worse outcomes, including higher mortality, after taking antiretroviral drugs compared with patients with HIV alone. Researchers said HIV patients co-infected with HBV or HCV should be identified and given antiretroviral therapy early to improve outcomes.
