NASA spacecraft reveals first images of solar system tail

Astronomers have received the first images of the solar system's clover-shaped tail from NASA's Interstellar Boundary Explorer, known as IBEX. The comet-like tail drags behind the heliosphere, a bubble around the solar system formed by solar wind and magnetic field. IBEX provided images that allowed scientists to determine the shape and structure of the tail, and its length is estimated to be 1,000 times the distance between the sun and Earth.
