Panera Bread has suspended its Meal of Shared Responsibility, a single 850-calorie meal with a pay-what-you-can price tag, that launched at the chain's 48 St. Louis-area eateries in late March. The heavily-promoted offering got off to a strong start, but sales tapered off after marketing efforts slowed; the chain will likely retool the promotion and bring it back as a limited-time offering in the winter, said founder and chairman Ron Shaich.
