Somaliland raises concerns over drug safety, lack of regulations

Health officials in Somaliland decried outdated laws, unqualified retailers and the flood of unregulated drug imports at a conference in the capital, Hargeisa. "Citizens are exposed to consumption of inappropriate medicines which are also priced exorbitantly and handled by unqualified persons," said Deputy Health Minister Nimo Qawdan. She said that the input of conference participants, who included World Health Organization representatives, pharmacist association members and other stakeholders, would be used to draft new pharmaceutical policies and regulations.
