Column: Aviation safety system remains sound

In a letter to The Wall Street Journal, Acting FAA Administrator Robert Sturgell says the U.S. is in its safest period of aviation history, in part because the FAA requires the highest level of safety. He notes that runway alerting systems were installed on time at 11 airports. He also attributed fuel-tank inerting to the persistence of FAA engineers and scientists.
