Green roofs are catching on among companies and city governments as an effective way to reduce energy costs. Experts say green roofs protect the roofing membrane from deterioration caused by ultraviolet light and from puncture damage. A green roof combined with various other green-building efforts have reduced energy consumption by 40% for a building in Ann Arbor, Mich.
