Swiss regulators to boost capital requirements for banks

The Federal Banking Commission of Switzerland has sent a letter to UBS and Credit Suisse explaining plans to impose increased capital requirements on the banks as a cushion against potential losses. Meanwhile, the Swiss National Bank has recommended introducing an extra buffer in the form of a leverage ratio similar to that in the US. The Swiss banks oppose the moves and have appealed to the government to reject the proposals.
