Canadian team officially wins Sikorsky Prize

The American Helicopter Society International confirmed that the Canada-based research team Aerovelo has won the $250,000 Sikorsky Prize for flying a human-powered helicopter for at least 60 seconds. Aerovelo's Atlas helicopter, made of carbon fiber, Kevlar, Mylar, foam and wood, weighs in at only 121 pounds and has a wingspan of 154 feet. The prize, first established in 1980, had gone unclaimed for some 33 years.
