House is expected to vote on split version of farm bill

House Republicans think they can pass a farm bill now that food stamps have been split from the measure. Farm groups and other organizations had opposed dividing the bill. Even if passed by the House, the legislation faces an uphill battle in the Senate and a threatened veto by the White House. "Republicans know this is a bill to nowhere -- even if they succeed in passing it through the House, the Senate will not consider a farm bill without nutrition assistance," said House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md.
