How to select the right adviser for your finances

When choosing an adviser to manage your money, steer clear of brokers, who may not have your best interests at heart, writes Elle Kaplan, CEO of Lexion Capital Management. Instead, seek out fiduciaries who hold Series 65 licenses, she writes. Avoid firms that offer self-branded investments, and make sure that no one individual has absolute control over your finances, she recommends. "The parties who can trade your assets should always be independent and separate from the parties who actually house your money," she writes.
