Program aims to develop interest in science among minority students

Eighteen seventh- and eighth-graders in Tacoma, Wash., dissected salmon as part of a science and math summer academy that teaches them the life cycle of the regional fish and how humans affect it. The class is part of the University of Puget Sound's Summer Academic Challenge, which is aimed at engaging more minority students in math and science learning and promoting enrollment in higher education.
