Proposed Medicare fee schedule changes could raise payments

Medicare's proposed 2014 physician fee schedule adjusts misvalued codes and includes new management codes for primary care physicians, which could boost compensation and make the system more equitable, according to AAFP President Jeff Cain, M.D. Cain said, however, if Congress does not stop a mandated Medicare payment cut of 24.4% next year, these incremental increases "do nothing to sustain primary medical care, much less build the primary care physician workforce."
