Quest Diagnostics, CDC to study hepatitis C trends

Laboratory services provider Quest Diagnostics entered a research partnership with the CDC that will focus on hepatitis C. The deal will give the CDC access to Quest Diagnostics' database of laboratory results. "Data will be evaluated to identify and track epidemiological trends in hepatitis C virus infection, testing and treatment, and evaluate how those trends differ based on gender, age, geography and clinical management," according to a CDC statement. The program aims to increase the rate of diagnosis and treatment of people with the disease. The CDC in August recommended that all Americans born from 1945 to 1964 undergo hepatitis C screening.
