RFA's Dinneen: Homegrown ethanol is displacing imported finished gasoline

It's not increased domestic oil production but ethanol production that is increasing U.S. energy security by cutting gasoline imports, thanks to the Renewable Fuel Standard, writes Bob Dinneen, president and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association. On a cumulative basis, nearly two-thirds of the liquid transportation fuel made in the U.S. since 2005 is ethanol, while just a little more than one-third is from U.S. crude oil, Dinneen states. "This clearly shows the rhetoric around fracking and oil shale extraction are overblown and America should continue to invest in what is working, ethanol," Dinneen writes.
