Data from surveys of 4,673 12- to 19-year-olds found that just 45% of boys and 50% of girls met five or more of the seven ideal heart health requirements defined by the American Heart Association. The researchers said that almost 80% of cardiovascular-related episodes could be averted by practicing healthy habits at a young age. The study appears in the journal Circulation.
