California schools move to single, year-round schedules

Since the 1970s, California schools have eased classroom overcrowding through multitrack scheduling, whereby year-round schools served students divided into groups with staggered terms. Now, many schools are dropping multiple tracks yet maintaining the year-round schedules to avoid the learning loss that often occurs over the long summer break.
