Study: Men at no greater risk for cancer recurrence after mastectomy than women

While breast cancer in men is fairly rare, such cases are not at a greater risk for relapse after a mastectomy than women and therefore should receive similar treatment, according to a new study. While post-mastectomy radiation for women usually is determined by tumor size, men have been thought to be at a higher risk for recurrence and are routinely given radiation, but the research challenges that theory.
