China's yuan continues to strengthen against the U.S. dollar

The yuan gained against the U.S. dollar on the forward-contract market and within China's foreign exchange system, driven by China's report that it reached its biggest trade surplus in eight months in June. Twelve-month forwards in Hong Kong trading edged up, while the China Foreign Exchange Trading System said the central parity rate for the currency was at its highest level on record, 6.7718 per U.S. dollar.
