Google CEO downplays Apple, Facebook rivalries

The rising fortunes of Facebook and Apple do not represent an either/or scenario for Google, whose core search business can benefit from its rivals' success, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said. Most "assume that these are zero-sum games, which are battles to the death," Schmidt said during a session with reporters, with Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, at the Sun Valley media conference. The Google team would not comment on whether it is working on a rival social network called Google Me.
