LG may make Android-based TV sets

LG Electronics is close to deciding whether it will produce a TV based on Google's Android operating system in order to keep up with competitors that are developing Web-connected sets, a company executive told Dow Jones. "Google TV could spark strong interest in the market, but the reason we are deliberating is because Google may one day dominate the software space and we don't want to end up as just a hardware provider," said Simon Kang, the head of LG's Home Entertainment unit.
