Mobile health offers new way for patients to control diabetes

Researchers are testing a mobile health application that allows patients with diabetes to monitor and control their blood sugar levels using Internet-connected cell phones. The application automatically sends a text message that warns patients if their blood sugar readings exceed preset limits and allows doctors to monitor fluctuations in the readings and make more informed treatment decisions. "Mobile phones provide that opportunity for persons to get the feedback they need when they need it," one researcher said.
