Study: Biomass energy isn't such a hot idea

Biomass energy, which involves burning organic matter to produce electricity, is much less green than had been thought, according to one recent study. Researchers found the process created a "carbon debt" that could take 90 years to mitigate. The findings have prompted Massachusetts to propose strict rules for the sector, and other states could follow.
