The 2011 Sweets & Snacks Expo showed that market trends reflect Americans' increasing desire to know what they are consuming and to monitor cost. Marketing strategies include smaller portions, sweet and savory flavor combinations, simple ingredient labels, vitamin and nutrient enhanced treats and personalization opportunities. The industry, valued by SymphonyIRI Group at $26 billion, posted a 3.6% gain in 2010.
