Supermarkets lose luster as grocery destination

As shoppers gain grocery choices, supermarkets' market share dipped to 51% in 2011. Meanwhile, SUPERVALU plans to suspend its dividend and hire advisers for a strategic review. "Supermarkets cannot continue to do the same things they did in 1990s and expect a different result than the one seen over the last 10 years," UBS analyst Jason DeRise said.
