Brazil boosts benchmark interest rate to 8.5%

Responding to a six-month inflation rate that hit 3.15% last month, Brazil's central bank raised its key interest rate from 8% to 8.5%. The increase is likely to move interest rates higher and in turn reduce consumer spending, an important part of Brazil's economy.
