Customer loyalty preserves regional grocery brands

Regional supermarkets have held ground against behemoths such as Wal-Mart Stores because customers still prefer a local feel and a less standardized experience, Kroger CEO David Dillon says. Even as large grocers buy up smaller chains, they often leave the regional brand intact to maintain customer loyalty, as Kroger plans to do with its purchase of Harris Teeter Supermarkets.
