House passes farm bill after cutting out food stamp money

The House has adopted a farm bill, voting 216-208, after eliminating hundreds of billions of dollars for the food stamp program to win the backing of conservative legislators. The measure would provide about $195 billion of subsidies to farmers during the next decade. If the House and the Senate fail to agree on funding food stamps, the money could be restored through normal appropriations.
