How long is too long with long-term planning?

Some Chinese bosses say they make decisions by thinking about where they want their company to be 100 years from now. That's in contrast to the much shorter strategic time frames preferred by many Western bosses, some of whom dismiss the Chinese approach as unrealistic. "You know the idea that somebody knows what the world is going to be like in 100 years' time is bonkers," says Rupert Soames, CEO of energy supplier Aggreko.
