Many Mexican-American youths suffer obesity, metabolic syndrome

Data from the San Antonio Family Assessment of Metabolic Risk Indicators in Youth found nearly 53% of Mexican-American children aged 6 to 17 were overweight or obese, and 13% had prediabetes. Nearly 20% of youths exhibited metabolic syndrome, researchers noted, saying the data show the importance of screening and early interventions.
