Report recommends ways to address treatment overuse

The Joint Commission and the American Medical Association's Convened Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement have released recommendations to minimize unnecessary use of certain medical treatments. The recommendations address five common treatments, including over-transfusion of red blood cells, the use of antibiotics for viral upper respiratory infections and elective angioplasty.
