Verizon is first U.S. carrier to join Ubuntu OS support group

Verizon Wireless has lined up behind Ubuntu, a Linux-based challenger to the Android and iOS operating systems, by joining the Ubuntu Carrier Advisory Group -- a group that platform developer Canonical formed to line up partners who would gain early access to Ubuntu and device-makers' plans. Verizon, which is said to be the first U.S.-based carrier to join the group, said its membership will enable it to share in discussions about the platform's technology.
