Competition for green-building status heats up

Since the U.S. Green Building Council created the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program in 1999, more construction companies are striving to build green buildings. With California leading the way with its platinum-ranked Natural Resources Defense Council office in Santa Monica, USGBC recently certified the 100th building to meet LEED standards, which include the use of recycled materials and natural light.
