Train your customers to direct questions appropriately

A new salesperson often falls into the trap of attempting to handle every customer question or issue, ending up the subject of a customer's every beck and call, Dave Kahle says. Certain questions and issues -- back orders, invoice problems, delivery dates and pricing on routine orders, for example -- are more appropriately handled by an inside salesperson or customer service representative, Kahle says.
