Understanding Nielsen's new Web ratings

Nielsen//NetRatings just switched the way it ranks the most-popular Web sites, from a system that counts unique users to a new method that rates the time an average user spends on a site. The new method has AOL ranked as the new top Web site, considerably ahead of Google in the listing. Google is still the unquestioned leader in Internet ad dollars, but an AOL executive said the new rankings show that AOL visitors "pound per pound ... are more engaged."
