Auditors retrieve $700M in Medicare overpayments to hospitals

Officials from the CMS' recovery audit contractor program have retrieved almost $700 million in Medicare overpayments to hospitals and health care providers in six states. However, medical providers argued that the program, which recovered a total of $1.03 billion of improper payments within about three years, is too hostile and confrontational.
