Justice Department asks high court to allow oil fees

The Justice Department has asked the Supreme Court to allow the Interior Department to collect as much as $10 billion in royalties from oil and natural gas leases in the Gulf of Mexico signed between 1996 and 2000. A lower court ruled in favor of Anadarko Petroleum in a royalty dispute, but that decision also affects leases of other oil companies signed during those years.
