Pandit's plan for Citi might be at odds with government's goals

Citigroup CEO Vikram Pandit said in a recent speech that the company was seeking gains "away from credit creation and the U.S. consumer" by "harnessing globalization." Mr. Pandit's plans for the banking giant might compete with the government's goals of bolstering the domestic economy through bank loans and limiting risk. Mr. Pandit might experience resistance to his plans because the Treasury is about to become the bank's largest shareholder.
