Researchers develop new class of radiation protection pills

U.S. researchers have developed a class of new compounds, called "EUK-400 series," that can protect the kidneys, lungs, skin and intestinal tract from radiation-related injuries even when administered after radiation exposure. The agents are designed to be taken orally as pills. "A pill would be more feasible than an injection to treat large numbers of people in an emergency scenario," a researcher said.
