Sara Lee embraces sustainability in package design

By reducing the height of its Hillshire Farms lunch-meat packaging by 3/16 of an inch, Sara Lee was able cut the amount of plastic it uses by 625,000 pounds. In this interview, Sara Lee's director of packaging innovation and development discusses the company's commitment to sustainability and using the five Rs -- reduce, reuse, recycle, renew and remove -- as the foundation for all of the company's designs.
