Urgent-care clinic aims to go nationwide with franchised outlets

Dr. Scott Burger of Maryland wants to make his Doctors Express clinic an urgent-care franchise, with 3,000 outlets across the U.S. offering patients primary-care services without an appointment, during the day, at night or on weekends. The franchises would have a physician on duty at all times and lab equipment to run tests and could be owned by corporate managers who do not have a medical background.
