Wisconsin court rules out bystanders' malpractice damage claims

Witnesses in medical-malpractice cases are not entitled to seek damages for emotional trauma, according to a ruling from the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The decision comes after the court threw out a $200,000 damage claim awarded by a lower-court judge to Gregory Phelps, who witnessed the death of one of his twin sons at birth in 1998.
