One of every 4 U.S. consumers has credit score under 599

More than a quarter of all American consumers, about 43.4 million people, have a credit score below 599, marking them as poor credit risks, according to a FICO analysis of credit reports in April. FICO's historical data shows that 25.5 million people, or about 15% of U.S. consumers, usually held credit scores that low.
