Tracing the history of in-flight entertainment

In the first of a series, blogger Michael Childers traces the roots of in-flight entertainment. He begins with the birth of the motion-picture industry and continues through the advent of made-for-television movies in 1948. Commercially viable in-flight movie projection began in 1962, although the first movie shown onboard an airplane dates to 1921. He concludes by touching upon the digital and mobile technologies of today's IFE.
