Teachers' salaries rose in 2002-03, AFT says

Average teachers' salaries increased to $44,367 in the 2002-03 school year, up 2.7% from the previous year, but pay for veteran teachers remained low compared with other fields, prompting some to leave the profession, according to a report by the American Federation of Teachers. Beginning teachers saw their salaries climb 3.2% to an average of $30,719, the report found.
