Columnist: Bilingual programs assailed by some New York Hispanics

Columnist Samuel G. Freedman says the fiercest foes of bilingual education are often Spanish-speaking immigrants who see fluency in English as the key to better jobs for their children. Freedman urges Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein to follow through on their pledges to improve an entrenched program by improving teacher training and oversight.
