Companies tap into natural gas in shale formations

The Barnett Shale in North Texas is at the center of a growing trend for oil companies to secure drilling rights in and around shale formations. Barnett is producing 3 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, inspiring companies to seek out rights not only near that formation, but also near shale in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and Colorado.
